We’re here today at Merthyr Tydfil County Borough Council, where we’re speaking with Transport Manager Ioan about his seamless switch to Fleetclear and how our integrated technology has helped him meet his compliance and safety goals.

My name is Ioan Vanto. I’m the Transport Manager for Merthyr Tydfil County Borough Council. My role involves looking after a fleet of around 140 vehicles and approximately 200 drivers.

We found that other suppliers struggled to connect tracking devices to some newer vehicles. Fleetclear proved that they could fit the devices to vehicles from any manufacturer.

Once the first devices were installed, the team increased the installation rate to around 10 vehicles per day. The entire process took approximately three weeks.

We did not have to keep vehicles off the road for long periods. The team worked around us, carrying out installations when vehicles were not in use. They were very flexible and moved between our locations depending on where the vehicles were based.

We installed the Fleetclear tracking systems in January this year, and the impact was immediately evident. Since then, none of our drivers have received any further speeding fines.

At first, drivers were slightly concerned because when travelling in a 20 mph zone, the system would issue a voice alert if they reached around 24 mph.

Over time, however, they recognised the benefits of the technology, including protecting their driving licences and the organisation.

We initially had Fleetclear cameras fitted to a couple of vehicles and were impressed by how much better they were compared with our previous systems.

That was when we met Jason and the sales team, who introduced us to other products that continued to impress us.

We now have tracking systems with driver identification and speed limit alerts. In the future, we are also looking to explore digital defect reporting and accident reporting.

The support and communication have been excellent from the beginning. Jason introduced and explained the products, while Neil arranged the installations and scheduled replacements.

We replace around 10 vehicles each year, and our new vehicles now arrive with the systems already installed, which has worked very well for us.

The engineers also usually attend within a couple of days when support is required.
