Fleetclear wins national award for AI-powered Live Lane Information System

The achievement recognises the company’s work in developing technologies that protect frontline workers who operate in high-risk traffic environments.
LLIS was created in partnership with Serco in response to the persistent safety risks faced by waste and recycling crews who regularly cross live traffic lanes.

The system uses AI cameras to detect approaching vehicles up to 30 metres away, activating warning lights and optional audio alerts to reduce the risk of collisions and near-misses. Integrated with Fleetclear Connect, it provides data and heat-mapped insights to support improvements in operational safety.
The system benefited from extensive real-world feedback during trials on Serco vehicles in Sandwell and Wandsworth, leading to refinements such as a redesigned warning light to improve operator comfort in low-light conditions.

Reflecting on the award, George Roach, Performance and Compliance Director at Serco, said:
“The idea for LLIS began after a close call involving one of our loaders. It was a moment that reminded us that the people behind every service deserve to go home safely. To see that initial idea grow into a nationally recognised innovation is incredibly rewarding and a testament to the collaboration between our teams and Fleetclear.”
Fleetclear’s CTO, Chris Waller, said the team is proud to see LLIS recognised for its contribution to operational safety. Serco Fleet Director Steve Heywood praised the collaboration and highlighted the improvements in situational awareness for crews working in live lanes.
As interest grows across logistics, delivery and industrial sectors, the award also shines a light on Fleetclear’s role as a growing technology innovator in Worcestershire, where the company continues to invest in local jobs, technical talent and new product development.
