Northern Recycling Solutions operates a fleet of 10 HGVs, a combination of 26t refuse vehicles and skip loaders and a sweeper.  The collection vehicles are equipped with Fleetclear’s LIVE DVR camera systems, and the company uses the Fleetclear Connect platform to access data from the cameras.

Susan Bowden, Logistics Manager, Northern Recycling Solutions said: “We started using Fleetclear systems over 5 years ago and the cameras have become so important to our operation.  Our drivers are often travelling across very remote locations, and the cameras enable us to stay connected to them. If they get into difficulty we can see where they are and assist them.”

“If there is an accident, complaint or other incident we can search the footage super quickly thanks to the Fleetclear Connect software and see exactly what happened. Like other fleet operators now and again we receive a call from a member of the public saying that one of our vehicles has caused damage. On numerous occasions footage captured by our camera systems has saved the day, providing unequivocal evidence that this is not the case. For example, it either confirms that we weren’t operating in the relevant area at the specified time or it proves that our vehicle didn’t go anywhere near the complainant’s vehicle.”

Complaints just go away

False insurance claims are a burden to many fleet operators and the presence of cameras can be a big deterrent to would-be claimants.  

Susan adds: “As soon as we mention that we have footage the complaint and the complainant often go away.”

The camera systems are useful in a variety of scenarios as Susan outlines:

“Our drivers sometimes use the cameras to check the positioning of a skip delivery and confirm they are leaving it in the correct location.

“Also, if a driver breaks down, we can keep checking in with them to make sure they are ok. It gives us and them peace of mind. On occasion we have also needed to use footage to support disciplinary action.”

Northern Recycling Solutions are not just impressed with the camera systems, they are also very pleased with the after-sales service from Fleetclear as Susan explains:

“They [Fleetclear] are brilliant to deal with. It’s as if they are just down the road. Andy [Andy Monk, Fleetclear’s Sales Manager for Scotland] pops in to see us regularly and if any issues arise with a camera it is dealt with swiftly. They really do bend over backwards and we feel fully supported by them.”
